Instrument

Shimadzu IRTracer FTIR spectrometer located at LEAM.

The EMU FAPESP infrastructure centers on a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer located at LEAM and associated with BBLab's biomaterials and biointerfaces research activities. The equipment supports chemical-structural characterization of solids, powders, films, hydrogels, scaffolds, composites, and surface-modified materials.

The EMU project is registered as FAPESP process 2023/07910-4 and connected to the research program supported by FAPESP process 2022/03247-6.

External users may request access to the FTIR facility for academic, collaborative, or service-oriented measurements. Scheduling is subject to technical feasibility, staff availability, sample safety, and EMU-FAPESP reporting requirements.

Measurements are confirmed by email with user responsibilities and facility instructions.

Outputs should acknowledge BBLab/LEAM/ITA and the EMU-FAPESP infrastructure.

User Instructions

Prepare your FTIR request before scheduling.

Before the appointment

  • Describe sample composition, physical form, and any safety restrictions.
  • Indicate whether ATR, transmission, reflection, or another mode is desired.
  • Declare solvents, biological residues, powders, fragile films, or reactive materials.
  • Wait for technical confirmation before bringing or shipping samples.

During and after analysis

  • Follow LEAM/BBLab safety rules and operator instructions.
  • Bring labeled samples and any reference material required for interpretation.
  • Do not operate the instrument without authorization or supervision.
  • Use the facility acknowledgment in publications, theses, reports, and presentations.
